Michigan iGaming revenue in August

Combined gross igaming and sports betting receipts in Michigan amounted to $169.3m.

In August, Michigan commercial and tribal operators reported total internet gaming (iGaming) gross and sports betting receipts of $175.4 million. Gross revenues fell 0.4% from July to August.

Gross iGaming receipts in August totaled $152.2 million, with gross sports betting receipts being $23.2 million. Gross iGaming receipts were $153.6 million in July 2023, with gross sports betting receipts of $22.5 million.

Total iGaming and internet sports betting adjusted gross revenues (AGR) for August were $153.1 million, with iGaming accounting for $137.2 million and online sports betting accounting for $15.9 million — a 0.7% and 3.0% decrease, respectively, from July 2023. iGaming AGR increased by 16.8% compared to August 2022 reported revenues, while sports betting decreased by 1.3%.

Total online sports betting handles increased 8.8% to $218.5 million in July 2023 from $200.8 million.

During August, the operators reported submitting $29.7 million in taxes and payments to the State of Michigan, which included:
  • Taxes and levies on Internet gaming: $28.6 million
  • Taxes and expenses on internet sports betting: $1.1 million

During August, the three Detroit casinos reported paying the City of Detroit $7.3 million in wagering taxes and municipal service fees, which included:
  • Internet gaming taxes and fees amount to $6.9 million.
  • Taxes and expenses on internet sports betting: $368,596

Tribal operators reported making $3.6 million payments to governing bodies in August.

Before August, 15 providers provided online gaming and internet sports betting. Odawa Casinos stopped offering online sports betting on August 1, bringing the total number of internet sports betting operators in the state to 14.
