Which NFL Teams Have the Most Fans?

Determining the NFL team with the most fans is subjective and depends on various metrics. While the Dallas Cowboys often claim the title of America's Team due to their massive fanbase, other teams like the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Green Bay Packers boast incredibly loyal and passionate followings.

The home of the Dallas Cowboys

In the vibrant tapestry of NFL fandom, certain teams shine brighter than others. Their fanbases become the 12th man required to lead their team forward, often being the difference between victory and defeat. Just take a look at the Kansas City Chiefs and their fortress-like Arrowhead Stadium.

Throughout the last five years, Patrick Mahomes and Co. have played ten playoff games on home turf, winning all but one of them. Their postseason success throughout that time frame has translated into three Lombardi trophies, including the last two Super Bowls on the spin, and next term, they are the favorites for glory once again. But while the Chiefs are without a doubt the latest dynasty on the gridiron, they still have some way to go before they are considered one of the best-supported teams in the league.

So, who exactly are they? Let's find out.

Dallas Cowboys

If you're known as "America's Team,” chances are you're the most supported side in the Land of the Free. And in the case of the Dallas Cowboys, that is 100% accurate. Founded in 1960, the Lone Star State outfit quickly rose to prominence, reaching back-to-back Super Bowls just a decade after their founding, losing the first and winning the second with a resounding 24-3 victory against the Miami Dolphins in 1971.

Further Big Games followed with another Lombardi heading to the Big D in 1977, but it wasn't until the 1990s that the Cowboys truly came into their own. They won three Super Bowls in four seasons between 1992 and 1995, resulting in millions of supporters rallying behind them, akin to how Manchester United became the most supported soccer team on the planet thanks to their success under Sir Alex Ferguson.

But the team's success and the resulting glory of the supporters that attached themselves to the bandwagon aren't the sole reason why the Cowboys are the most supported team in the country. Another reason for their massive fan base is their iconic branding and marketing strategies. The team's star-studded roster successfully managed to capture the imagination of the neutrals and solidify the Cowboys' status as a national powerhouse.

In recent times, however, that legion of supporters has known nothing but pain. The Cowboys have managed to find success throughout the regular season, finishing each of the last two seasons in the upper echelons of the NFC, but once the bright lights of the playoffs are on, Dak Prescott and Co. are nowhere to be found.

Last season, the Texas-based outfit was dumped out in the wildcard round courtesy of a shocking defeat on home turf to an unheralded Green Bay Packers side. The bookies feel like the memories of that loss still linger, and the latest Bovada NFL lines make the Cowboys an even money underdog for their 2024 opening week clash against the Cleveland Browns. Whether they win or lose that clash is irrelevant, and the Cowboys will still be the best-supported team in the league at the end of it, but if their current postseason woes continue, who knows how much longer that will be the case?

Green Bay Packers

Speaking of the team that conquered the Cowboys last term, the Green Bay Packers are also well-supported and have the second most fans in the league. In stark contrast to the corporate ownership structure of most sides in the league, the Wisconsin outfit stands out as a community-owned franchise deeply rooted in tradition. Established in 1919, the team has amassed a storied history filled with championships, legendary players, and a devoted fan base known for its unwavering support through thick and thin.

Their home stadium, Lambeau Field, has become known as "Frozen Tundra” thanks to its bitter conditions, especially throughout the winter postseason. The area serves as hallowed ground for the Packers faithful to gather and witness their team in action. Despite the frigid temperatures that often accompany games in Green Bay, the stands are always filled with loyal supporters donning green and gold, waving their iconic "Cheesehead" hats.

Their heydey came way back in the 1960s when the team secured back-to-back Lombardis, and they would reach consecutive Big Games three decades later as well, but this time around they only managed to win the first before losing to the Denver Broncos in the 1997 season's showpiece. In 2010, Aaron Rodgers managed to lead the Packers back to the promised land, defying their lowly sixth-seed status to reel off three straight road game victories before going on to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers at Super Bowl XLV.

A-Rod has since departed for the bright lights of the Big Apple, and in his place, young star Jordan Love has risen to the challenge. He led the Packers to the Divisional Round of the postseason last term despite his side being unfancied, and he was rewarded with the biggest contract in NFL history. He will be hoping that both himself and his team can continue in a similar vein in the upcoming 2024 campaign.
